Civic Engagement

Civic engagement is generally thought to solely coincide with voting, yet voting is just one part of being an engaged citizen.  The Community Action department at MPDC recognizes the range of civic engagement, and from it, the opportunities that build the Roxbury community.

Through our candidate forums and voter guides, organized by our RoxVote Coalition -- a group comprised of non-partisan Roxbury-based organizations and residents -- or our annual events, like Donuts with Delegates, we stress the importance of civic engagement as a building block in organizing community.

Our civic engagement initiatives seek to provide opportunities for our residents to make better informed decisions, to utilize and develop a combination of their knowledge, skills, values, and passion, and to inspire them to lead.

Overall, we seek to achieve our initiatives in a way that fosters individual and collective empowerment and creates community capital.

Join our team and our effort!  To volunteer, contact Corey Allen, Civic Engagement Coordinator.  You can reach him by email or at 617-849-6321.
