MPDC has partnered with Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries for Will to Build, a training program designed to teach skills needed to begin a career in building and property maintenance and management.
The eight-week training program began on April 1st and will run through May 31st. Participants meet three times a week for classroom and technical training. The classroom training occurs at Goodwill's headquarters in Roxbury, and the technical training takes place at MPDC's various property sites. The program also focuses on training in basic safety, maintenance shop organization, as well as targeted training in appliances, landscape, and other maintenance disciplines.
Of the 16 participants, there are four women and 12 men, two are residents of MPDC's properties.
Leo Ramirez, program coordinator at Goodwill, is very pleased with the level of participation in the program. He is encouraged by the general excitement and eagerness to learn that is demonstrated by the students in the program.
