ROXBURY, MA. Madison Park Development Corporation (MPDC), a community-based, non-profit organization focused on developing affordable housing for low and moderate income residents, is excited to announce the ribbon cutting ceremony for its newly constructed 43-unit affordable housing development, Dudley Greenville Apartments.  The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 207 Dudley Street.

In addition to all the partners who made the project possible, Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh and local elected officials are scheduled to offer remarks regarding Dudley Greenville Apartments and to assist with the ribbon cutting.

“This $18 million investment in Roxbury’s Dudley Square has transformed two prominent vacant lots into modern buildings with 43 affordable, energy-efficient homes for low income families and contributes to the economic development of Roxbury,” according to Madison Park Development Corporation CEO Jeanne Pinado.

The Dudley Greenville Rental Housing Project is built on the last two parcels of land Madison Park Development Corporation acquired from the Boston Housing Authority through the Orchard Park Hope IV program.  A MassDevelopment Brownfields grant of nearly $500,000 was used to clean up the contaminated land, helping to improve the environmental health of the neighborhood.  This $18 million development features two new energy-efficient, mixed-use buildings with 43 affordable housing units and 2,715 square feet of ground floor commercial space.  There are 31 one-, two- and three-bedroom flats in 207 Dudley Street and 12 two- and three-bedroom stacked duplex apartments in 225 Dudley Street.  Both buildings are handicap-accessible with energy-efficient features and appliances and smoke-free.

A lottery held with 940 eligible households with incomes of 60% of the area’s median income illustrates the dire need for affordable homes.  Families begun moving in during the month of July 2014 and the buildings were fully occupied in September 2014.  “My 12-year old daughter’s favorite part of the day is coming home,” says Monica Lewis, resident of Dudley-Greenville who relocated from a homeless shelter.

Financing for this project was provided by Bank of America, First Sterling Financial, MassDevelopment, City of Boston Department of Neighborhood Development (DND), Commonwealth of MA Department of Community Development (DHCD), Mass Housing Partnership, and MassHousing.
